7 brave SCCH golfers defied rain and cold!
The earlier postponed SCCH annual golf tournament was held on Saturday October 4, at Pannon Golf & Country Club (Máriavölgy). After a nice and warm September the “weather-god’s” did not show any mercy with the golfers this day. But to my experience, there is nothing what can stop an enthusiastic golfer.

”Meeting” with Valdemar Langlet (1872-1960)
Book presentation on the occasion of presenting and celebrating the first Hungarian edition of, “The forgotten hero: Valdemar Langlet”, by author and former chief official of the Swedish Red Cross, Björn Runberg.
On October 18-19, the “Hungarian-Swedish Association” and “SWEA”, the “Valdemar Langlet General School and Adult Education Centre in Budapest” and “Adoc-Semic Publishing”, organized meetings with the author of the book about Valdemar Langlet and his humanitarian work in Budapest during the World War II.
The first presentation was made in connection with a Swedish language course in the Sapienta Főiskola (former ELTE) for a group of Hungarians, preparing for a longer visit to Sweden. Agnes Harrach introduced and assisted the author, Björn Runberg.
The second presentation took place in the Valdemar Langlet School, in the presence of , among others, the Swedish Ambassador, ms Cecilia Björner, mr Béla Giczy, Headmaster of Valdemar Langlet school, ms Beatrix Belán, dep. Mayor of the 4th district, invited guests and students of the school.
“According to the subtitle of this book, the Swedish saver of human lives Wallenberg was not alone. However, little information is available about other persons saving thousands of lives in Budapest during World War II, as did Valdemar Langlet. Who was he then ?
Valdemar Langlet was born in 18 72 and died in 1960 in Sweden. Between 1931 and 1945 he was living in Hungary as a linguist, author, university professor and staff member of the Swedish legation. In 1944, at the age of 72, he felt the necessity and the urge to help those persecuted by Nazism in Hungary. In his capacity of Chief of the Swedish Red Cross Mission he issued letters of protection to all applicants, and the bearers were actually covered by the protection of the Swedish Red Cross. The generous activities of Mr. and Mrs Langlet and their friends among all the dangers of the war in Hungary were carried out simultaneously with Raoul Wallenberg´s to save several tens of thousands of human lives. Why has he been forgotten ? This is revealed as his life is presented in this book now available in Hungarian.
Author Björn Runberg is a former employee and historian of the Swedish Red Cross.”
Publishing of the Hungarian edition of this book was sponsored by Adoc-Semic Publishing Kft and the paper for the printing of the book was provided by courtesy of Papyrus Hungary Zrt. |
